Lexie Mercier is a designer, researcher, and writer in New York City.

🔮AKA: Alexandra or Lexie Kane

Design, research, and story-telling create the internet we love.

As a proud former Internet Kid, technology shapes how I see the world. I made my first websites in elementary school as a way to share my art. My education in psychology informs how I build digital experiences. My professional experience includes Estee Lauder, Nielsen Norman Group, and an agency called IHS Markit. As an agency designer I’ve been lucky enough to work with The Financial Times, CNN Money, and Charles Schwab.

What’s my career story so far?

Let’s say it’s been an interesting journey. New Yorkers often cycle through several careers. We’re an ambitious group of people and have to experiment to keep up with the cost of living. Recently, I studied for a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling at Teachers College at Columbia University. Although I learned so much from my time at grad school I made the difficult decision to come back to tech. My reasons why will feature in a blog post.

Here’s a quick explanation: I discovered that not every passion translates into a career. My posts here discuss mental health topics and the internet. On a professional day-to-day basis, I miss my colleagues in the tech industry. Right now I am looking for research and design contract work.

New York City is home to many different stories.

I started my blog as a way to write letters to my friends. To protect my friends’ privacy, I have used only their first names when I publish these letters on mental health topics I care about.
